Curriculum Redesign

imagesIf you have been looking at the revised curriculum at all, you know that part of it includes Core Competencies.  To explore this aspect in more detail, please take a look at the following Core Competencies from the Ministry website.  You may also find the following short video of interest: Core Competencies – Video.

Please see the attached Timeline for Change that outlines the changes to the revised curriculum for BC students.

The Ministry of Education has produced several documents that parents may find useful as the try to understand what has changed with regards to the Curriculum in BC.  The new, or redesigned curriculum will support the development of skills students need to be successful after graduation, and beyond, such as critical thinking and communication skills.  There are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that will help with your understanding in this area.

This redesigned curriculum places greater emphasis on Core Competencies.  These are Thinking, Communication and Personal and Social.  These Core Competencies are explored in more detail within the learning standards.  They come into play when students are engaged in ‘doing’ in any area of learning.  Curriculum Redesign will help show What’s new? and What’s the same?

We will be posting more information on the redesigned curriculum for you throughout the year.  We hope you find it informative.
